Salamander's Scales

Rite-imbued Armament

Imagine ring mail formed of some metal whose coloration is like a spinel. Each link in the chain is as durable as the face of a gem. This is how the Salamanders, being creatures whose physical forms bear at least the appearance of softness and malleability, chose to craft for themselves scales in contrast to the natural ones born by many of their kin.

Salamander's Scales are dynamic and responsive. So long as they are supplied with sufficient [mana], the scales will grow over time, adding new rings to the mail and in more extreme cases forming multiple layers of mail. Rings that have already formed can also relocate almost instantly looped to any other link. A Salamander, or a chosen being of some other sapient ilk, can guide the growth and reconfiguration of the Scales at will, allowing the scales to be highly adaptable both as a defensive measure and as a weapon.
